LOGO PHENOMIN

The mouse phenogenomics is currently the key way through modelling of disease in biomedicine. The mouse phenogenomics is crucial to the understanding of mammalian genome, understanding of the mechanisms of pathogenesis, the discovery of new targets and preclinical human therapeutic applications.

PHENOMIN supports the French scientific community in the creation, the care, the phenotyping, the distribution and archiving of animal models. The infrastructure provides services, trainings and is an actor in networking in animal model. Also, it is the French major player in the international strategic effort through INFRAFRONTIER Infrastructure and IMPC Consortium, which shape the International Research Area in the field of mouse functional genomics and thereby make an important contribution to the study of human diseases.

PHENOMIN consists in 3 complementary centers involved in mouse phenogenomics:

PHENOMIN CARTE

ICS: INSTITUT CLINIQUE DE LA SOURIS, STRASBOURG
Large scale facility for generation, phenotyping and pharmacology projects

TAAM LABORATOIRE « TRANSGENESE ET ARCHIVAGE D’ANIMAUX MODELES », ORLEANS
Typing, imaging, archiving and distribution

CIPHE CENTRE D’IMMUNOPHENOMIQUE, MARSEILLE
Designing mouse models to decipher immunity and infection

Generating precise and target genome mutations in the mouse genome is one of the most common approach in functional genomics. It helps to better understand the gene function, basic biological mechanisms, and physiopathology, to identify and validate new drug targets and to perform risk assessment in drug development.

PHENOMIN offers state-of-the-art specialized services and consultancy: Ready-to-use genetically engineered mouse models and comprehensive, standardized or advanced characterization of gene function by identification of anatomical, physiological, and behavioral phenotypes in mouse models.PHENOMIN actively collaborates with national and international partners to promote access to open resources (data, mouse models, standard operating procedure, trainings…), provide genotype-phenotype annotation, to develop innovative tools (imaging, cancer and rare disease models, genetically engineered rat models…). For instance, PHENOMIN has successfully implemented the CRISPR-Cas9 technology. CRISPR-Cas9 is a rapid and cost effective technology to generate mouse mutant models. Now PHENOMIN provides knock-out models though direct injection into fertilized mouse oocytes of CRISPR sgRNA and Cas9 mRNA.

Close collaborator and active contributor to European and international Mouse Functional Genomics projects

PHENOMIN drives the expertise and sets resources for French researchers through its involvement in the European infrastructure for mouse disease models “INFRAFRONTIER” and the International Mouse Phenotyping Consortium “IMPC”.
Both are composed of major mouse genetics research institutions, national funding organizations and corporations formed to systematically invalidate each of the 20,000 genes in the mouse in order to decipher the main functions of the genes coding for proteins. The "loss of function" or "knockout" mouse models generated are characterized according to a standardized phenotyping protocol.
